Metrifit has been used to gain a more in-depth insight into our student-athlete’s progressive athletic development and balance relative to their particular sporting and training activities, academic studies and total load. Metrifit has also enhanced reporting, record keeping and improved communication from both within the Sports Scholarship Programme and with external providers. Metrifit doesn’t just help with optimising our Sports Scholarship students’ athletic performance. It assists us in helping them get the balance right between their sporting activities and academic studies. We’re trying to build resourcefulness and character in our students for life, not just the sports field.
The after sales service of Metrifit to Lincoln University, their willingness to help, accessibility and constant improvement to the benefit our student-athletes has been unwavering. The HST and Metrifit team have been extremely helpful in the ongoing development of a system that is specific to our needs.

One of the best features of Metrifit is the fact that we can use this as a central hub to gather and collect data from several different sources. HR, GPS, force plate data, to name a few, can be downloaded to add additional data as we see fit. So, in the future, the addition of new technologies will be a simple process. I believe we are only scratching the surface of what we are capable of doing with Metrifit. In the future, Metrifit’s use of predictive analytics will be very interesting regarding what we are finding and how we look at injury prevention and performance."

In an internal review of the use of the software by the 21 coaches and 70 sports pupils engaged on Metrifit, 100% of coaches rated Metrifit as good or excellent, stating:
"Great system for young sports pupils to raise self awareness and discipline of providing feedback to coaches"
"Easy to view traffic light system which provides invaluable information for sports coaches and sport science practitioners"
In addition, 74% of pupils stated they completed their Metrifit logs 5-7 times per week and 68% of sports pupils commonly reported sleep quantity and quality as red flags. When asked how the coaching staff responded to Metrifit feedback our sports pupils commented:
"When I was ill, I reported it on Metrifit and my coach checked up on me before my session to make sure I was still able to train"
"My coach changed my gym session to a recovery session when I reported muscle soreness to be poor over a number of sessions, allowing me to be fresh for hard training sessions the following days"
I have and will continue to recommend Metrifit to other academic institutions with formalised sports programmes based on its value for money, ease of use from both an athlete and coach perspective and the excellent support network that the Metrifit team provide through the Metrifit.com and communication with Peter and Ann ."

When our players have been only training with the national team Metrifit allows me to liaise very closely with our conditioning coaches to manage load and intensity of training during training camps. I recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to use monitoring system."

What initially sparked your interest in Metrifit?
As an educator and coach it is my responsibility to provide and foster 21st Century Skills to my students. There has been a worldwide “shift” in how society learns, interacts, and what they view as valuable. We are in a digital age and in order to engage, empower, and inspire my students I needed a program that would provide these opportunities. Read More
What are a few of the features within Metrifit that you value or have found to be the most impactful for your student-athletes?
Without a doubt the RTT number, the readiness to train. Our students and especially our Coaches view these numbers before the school day begins. It has enabled conversations and relationships between students and coaches that never would have taken place without the Metrifit program. It provides a voice for the quiet student and a way to “reach out” for our coaches and students as well. Secondly I’d look at ownership. That’s a big thing we do here at Noblesville High School. We’re not just looking for buy-in – we are looking for ownership. The Metrifit program provides an opportunity for ownership. Both the students and coaches equally share in the athlete/team development process. Lastly and probably most importantly in all honesty relationships. Our coaches through Metrifit basically have an ‘X-ray’ vision into the habits and lifestyles and stressors their athletes have on a day to day basis, especially when they are not together. Thus the professional authentic relationships created through the casual conversations, reflection process and application provided is priceless.
How has Metrifit impacted the “culture” at Noblesville High School?
There are 3 aspects to Metrifit that have really enhanced the overall culture
1. The positive engagement
2. Personal Team Ownership and lastly
3. The higher overall commitment to health and lifestyle
The amount of authentic conversations and learning regarding sleep and nutrition alone have proved immeasurable to our coaches and students alike. In addition Metrifit offers your shy and meek students a voice they normally would not have the courage to have. I was able to identify some severe mental health concerns in 2 students this past year based off consistent low RTT – your readiness to train scores. And then the authentic conversation that came along with that student. It was literally a potential life saver. We were able to connect the student with the right counselor, with the right guidance and at the end you need to go with Metrifit because its more than just your innovative athletic monitoring system. It’s really a system that engages all students and people to levels that you wouldn’t even think really existed.
Who or what groups should use Metrifit?
You know initially I thought that this would be directed at student-athletes only. After only 1 semester it was obvious that all students would benefit from an innovative monitoring program such as Metrifit. This is great for coaches but for parents and your general classroom teacher as well this is very powerful. The readiness to train or RTT number gives you a lot of information not just about their sleep, nutrition – but also how they are feeling today, if they’re sore, if they’re stressed, their overall academic preparedness. That’s valuable when you’re in an English classroom, that’s valuable in a Maths classroom. To have that information ahead of time so that when a student comes to you, or in a parent’s role when you look at your child that you love like no other and there are issues going on – you can have that information ahead of time as a speaking point. And maybe it just serves as that catalyst to develop that relationship further. So once again this has been great from the athletics side of it, but from a parents side and then from a holistic school approach – this program is for everybody.
If you are a coach, athletic director, or administrator that is looking to further strengthen your relationships with your athletes, bring your program into the 21st Century digital age, provide your program a innovative athletic monitoring system, and separate yourself from your competition then Metrifit is for you!

From the selectors and managements view point, the RTP (ready to perform) data on the players helps form the basis for team selection. Training can be tailored based on the players RPE (rated perceived effort) of each session and the work load monitored in order to prevent injury from under or over training. As with most inter county teams our players are located throughout the country and with the help of metrifit we can engage and monitor the team on a daily basis. Metrifit has catapulted our team to a new level of professionalism in an amateur sport."

The Readiness To Train (RTT) is a daily marker that allows players to rest when needs be but also allows the coaching team to plan, review and periodise training plans based on the daily feedback from each individual player or athlete. Read More
Over time RTT trends identify how individual athletes/players respond to different training stimuli and training phases. This allows coaching staff optimise training loads for individuals within a larger group.
The coaches corner provides an excellent medium for the whole backroom team (Sports Science, Medical, Stats/Video Analysis, Mgmt., liaison officers etc) to communicate with the players on an individual or group basis. Here player information and videos can be uploaded where all can access remotely.
The reports function is pivotal for grouping essential data in a click of a button. Whether information is required on an individual or group basis, over a short or long term, choices are simply applied via drop down menus with immediate and easy to read reports.
The feature most used by our team is the daily dashboard which allows an immediate snap shot of where the whole panel are at across a number of metrics such as training load, RTT, games played etc. A morning ritual is to review the dashboard and the traffic light system easily identifies the players who need to be helped or contacted as a priority before the day begins.
In summary, I have been using Metrifit since 2012 and find its application essential in the quantifying of both acute & chronic training load and thus heavily influences our training and recovery focus on a daily basis. You don’t really know how your players are responding to training stimuli unless you have daily data and Metrifit provides and easy to use and highly effective means of finding this critical information."
