Metrifit provides x-ray vision into lifestyle of student athlete
Coaches and athletes all over the world are competing to get that extra edge when it comes to performance. Shaving even a fraction of a second off your time, going that extra millimeter or having a small amount of energy or strength when required, along with the right mental focus when the pressure is on, can make all the difference. These factors can be crucial in determining success or failure, or at High School or College can prove the difference in your team winning or losing, and also whether an individual athlete makes it through to the big time. To assist a coach in having his athlete or team at peak level, data on all aspects of an athlete’s preparation is of significant value. Having in-depth knowledge on critical factors such as mood state, energy levels, health, muscle soreness, stress levels, sleep quality, sleep duration, training/activity duration etc are invaluable and all contribute to improved performance. This data is provided by Metrifit in a comprehensive and easy to use system that gives a coach invaluable and up to date information through visual reports and descriptive analytics. Metrifit has been described a providing an ‘X-ray vision into the habits/lifestyles and stresses their athletes lead’.
What is Metrifit
Metrifit is an athlete monitoring system that gathers subjective and objective information from both coaches and athletes to drive behavior modification and improvement through insights modeled on descriptive and predictive analytics. It sounds complicated but Metrifit prides itself on its simple intuitive interface and advocates a simple effective approach that doesn’t overwhelm the athlete or the coaching/staff member.
The system in operation
Among those using the Metrift system is Brian Clarke Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Wellness Dept Chair at Noblesville High School, Indiana, who has found the system to be an invaluable tool for the school’s student athletes. Using a system that embraces the technology that students are familiar with and comfortable using is one of the big attractions for Brian as he sought to engage, empower and inspire his students. His decision to implement the system proved extremely worthwhile as it has resulted in “positive engagement, ownership, and higher overall commitment to a healthy lifestyle”, according to Brian who outlines some of the main features found to be the most impactful for student athletes in Noblesville.
- The RTT: The readiness to train score. Our students and especially our coaches view these numbers before the school day begins. It has enabled conversations and relationships between students and coaches that never would have taken place without the Metrifit program. It provides a voice for the quiet student and a way to “reach out” for our coaches and students as well.
- Ownership: Secondly I’d look at ownership. That’s a big thing we do here at Noblesville High School. We’re not just looking for buy-in – we are looking for ownership. The Metrifit program provides an opportunity for ownership. Both the students and coaches equally share in the athlete/team development process.
- Relationships: Lastly and probably most importantly in all honesty relationships. Our coaches through Metrifit basically have an ‘X-ray’ vision into the habits and lifestyles and stressors their athletes have on a day to day basis, especially when they are not together. Thus the professional authentic relationships created through the casual conversations, reflection process and application provided is priceless.
Metrifit can literally be a life-saver
Brian is in no doubt that Metrifit has had a significant impact in Noblesville High School, that even goes beyond improving athletic or academic performance, as he explains.
The amount of conversations and learning regarding sleep and nutrition alone have sky rocketed. Once again it offers shy/quiet students a voice they normally would not have the courage to have. I was able to identify some severe mental health concerns in two students this past year based off of consistent low RTT scores and conversations with the students. It was literally a potential life saver.
As a result of seeing the system in operation, Brian is quick to praise its many virtues, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other High Schools and Colleges.
Initially I thought this would be directed for student-athletes only. After only one semester it was obvious that all students would benefit from an innovative monitoring program such as Metrifit. If you are a coach, athletic director, or administrator that is looking to further strengthen your relationships with your athletes, bring your program into the 21st Century digital age, provide your programs an innovative athletic monitoring system, and separate yourself from your competition then Metrifit is for you.
