Metrifit Ready to Perform

We were delighted to get the opportunity to have a chat with JC Anderson, the Director of the Athletic Training Program at the University of Tampa, Florida. JC was visiting UCD (University College Dublin) as part of a University collaboration between the two institutions.

Metrifit CEO Peter Larkin sat down with him and asked him a few questions.

Peter: So JC, great to see you again. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role in the University of Tampa?

JC: Yes, Thank you Peter. I am the athletic training program director, licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer. I’ve been at the University of Tampa for about 15 years working with our athletic training students and sports science students to prepare them for their future careers.

Peter: You’ve been using Metrifit for the past season with your men and women’s soccer teams. How have you found Metrifit?

JC: I’ve found Metrifit very easy to implement. The students have done very well and found it very helpful to their own tracking as well as our ability to track them over time and look at some insights into how their handling their training during this off season.

Peter: How does it help you look after the health and well being of your athletes and do you find Metrifit plays a big part in doing that?

JC: It has added a lot and helps identify some of the health issues, particularly issues related to sleep, sleep quality, their readiness to train from their perspective as well as helping us look at several athletes a little deeper in relation to return to sport.

Peter: You were looking for a platform that could be used with a simplistic element to it – now that you have introduced Metrifit how do you find it in relation to monitoring your athletes and your students?

JC: It has been very easy to implement. Working with the team in Metrifit we were able to implement it within just a couple of days to get it started and it met all of what our security people needed from an IT element perspective and it has really helped our students to get some insight into how they are performing. I really like it from the standpoint that is applicable not just for the athlete at the university but we think it has some application in the broader student health market.

Peter: One of the things we are focusing on now is looking at that broader student area with the University of Tampa under your guidance to investigate this area and see how we can push this through to be used in the non-athlete student population.

JC: Yea, that’s right. We think it has got some application given that student health and well being in the entire student population particularly in the US is a big push right now and it is a big area of emphasis for our university and finding a tool that we can use to get a daily or 3 times a week snapshot of how they are handling school, how they are handling life, how well they are at university, would be really beneficial.

Peter: But do you find just that health and well being gives you a reading of an individual?

JC: Yes – we are finding that it is really helping with some of our athletes that are not handling training very well, or when they are coming back from training, or where they are at as far as how was that training session; was it too much, should we back off so it has really helped inform the physical measures that we are using beyond that.

Peter: As you know we work with a number of top university’s in America currently, Wisconsin, Seattle, Quinnipiac and many more, we are delighted to be working with you and are delighted to have this opportunity to meet you and it is great to see that. We will be working and talking together soon over the next while in the research area an on moving forward. Thanks a million JC for the quick chat and we will talk to you soon.

JC: Thank you very much.

What is Metrifit?

Metrifit helps coaches get to know their athletes, and helps athletes get ready to perform. It is a simple, intuitive and effective approach to monitoring looking at how the ‘small picture’ of an athlete’s daily habits, shapes the ‘big picture’ of match day performance.

Whether your use of Metrifit is to have a highly accurate reflection of acute to chronic work-load ratios to make training/competition decisions, to empower student-athletes to be reflective and take charge of their Health & Wellness, or as a basis to engage in conversation with your Student-Athletes thereby demonstrating you care about them as individuals, Metrifit simply works. It meets kids where they reside – on their mobile phones and through technology and is quick, easy, and habit-forming to use.
