Former Firmwave CEO to power Metrifit expansion plan
Press Release
Former Firmwave CEO and Co-Founder, Fintan McGovern has been announced as Chairman of Louth based health, wellbeing and sports tech company, Metrifit. The ex CEO of the leading IoT company was enlisted to help drive global expansion and assist with the company’s upcoming Series A funding round.
The announcement was made following an undisclosed investment in preparation for a Series A funding round in 2020. Metrifit, a sports technology company that boosts professional athlete performance through data analytics, was launched by CEO Peter Larkin and CTO Ann Bruen in 2016.
The company currently works with the Football Association of Ireland, and several inter-county GAA teams including this year’s All Ireland Hurling winners Tipperary. They have a strong presence in the collegiate sector in the US and work with several European clients one of which includes the 2020 Ryder Cup Vice Captain Robert Karlsson.
Mr. McGovern joins the board and takes the role of Chairperson of Metrifit. A former officer with the Irish Defence Forces of 15 years and former GAA intercountry player for his home county of Cavan, Mr. McGovern went on to co-found IoT company, Firmwave, as CEO later exiting the company earlier this year following it’s acquisition by Wexford based company, Taoglas.
Commenting on the announcement of Fintan McGovern as Chairman, Metrifit CEO, Peter Larkin said:
As we prepare for our next phase of growth and continue to build out our team, we’re delighted to welcome Fintan onboard. His experience at the helm of one of Ireland’s best tech success stories will be a huge advantage to us as we face into the challenges of growing Metrifit into a competitive global company
Speaking on his appointment to Metrifit as Chairman, Fintan McGovern said:
I’ve always been keen to back strong teams with ambition, so I’m delighted to join Metrifit as Chairman as we prepare for its expansion and pivot towards health and wellbeing and consolidation, growth and expansion of our existing sports sectors, both team and individual. The foundations laid by the team are impressive with great partnerships across the world with leading sporting bodies. I’m very much looking forward to the challenge of helping expand and build on the great existing work by this leading Irish company in the sports tech and soon the health and wellbeing space globally
Metrifit has been awarded Enterprise Ireland High Potential Start Up (HPSU) status having previously raised €1.2 million. They launched their Metrifit Ready to Perform (RTP) product in 2016 and to date have over 5,600 users globally. It is estimated that around 50% of collegiate athletes will struggle with their mental health during their career which can have a knock-on effect on their sporting and academic performance. Metrifit provides a software app for mobile and PC that allows athletes to complete subjective information about their wellbeing and training responses enabling coaches to be more precise in their decision making regarding training session design and individual athlete management and how it affects their well-being.

What is Metrifit?
Metrifit helps coaches get to know their athletes, and helps athletes get ready to perform. It is a simple, intuitive and effective approach to monitoring looking at how the ‘small picture’ of an athlete’s daily habits, shapes the ‘big picture’ of match day performance.
Whether your use of Metrifit is to have a highly accurate reflection of acute to chronic work-load ratios to make training/competition decisions, to empower student-athletes to be reflective and take charge of their Health & Wellness, or as a basis to engage in conversation with your Student-Athletes thereby demonstrating you care about them as individuals, Metrifit simply works. It meets kids where they reside – on their mobile phones and through technology and is quick, easy, and habit-forming to use.
Why not have a look at our Metrifit Ready to Perform product and gain insight on the physical and mental state of your athletes through our daily wellbeing questionnaire? To find out more visit our Metrifit Product Overview page or contact at for a free demo.
