Metrifit RTP – a great tool for GAA teams that are serious about sports performance
When it comes to achieving your goals in any sport it is often the little things that can make the difference between success and failure. In the modern sporting world the gap between winning and losing can come down to fractions of seconds, millimeters, or squeezing out that last ounce of energy. Therefore coaches can’t afford to leave anything to chance in terms of their preparation, and as a result attention to detail is key to success, not only in terms of skill and physical fitness, but also in areas such as nutrition, rest, recovery and mental strength. The GAA is no different to any other sport in needing to perfect their preparation and some of the leading teams have enlisted the help of Metrifit – an intuitive effective athlete monitoring system that tracks and monitors the elements that help ensure each player is in the best possible condition. Metrifit is a system that can be used at all levels of the game and is equally effective for the top teams competing for All-Ireland titles as it is for club teams. It is easy to implement and use, while the data is easily accessible and ensures the coach can quickly act on the information provided to improve both individuals and teams.
There can be no better recommendation than the fact that over the past number of years, the system has been instrumental in the success of Dublin and, Kerry footballers as they have achieved All-Ireland success, Crystal Palace FC as they gained promotion from the Championship to the Premier league and across the water in the US, University of Wisconsin’s Basketball team made it to the final of the NCAA Basketball tournament leading to a write up about Metrifit in the New York Times.

Metrifit has been hugely beneficial in supporting our coaches and back room staff to track and monitor our players training loads, performance and readiness to train. Having a one-stop shop for collating all relevant information across a holistic picture of the player allows us to help prevent burnout, injury and provide timely feedback and communication to all

In summary, I have been using Metrifit since 2012 and find its application essential in the quantifying of both acute & chronic training load and thus heavily influences our training and recovery focus on a daily basis. You don’t really know how your players are responding to training stimuli unless you have daily data and Metrifit provides and easy to use and highly effective means of finding this critical information

Monitoring is essential for improvement
The recent advances in technology have allowed coaches the opportunity to monitor all areas essential in helping an athlete achieve peak performance. Most important of all is that this information is gathered in a central hub of data that is regularly updated and easily accessible, ensuring that all information gathered is reliable and relevant. This allows the coach to evaluate it and analyse it, which in turn helps them get the best possible performance out of the athlete. The increasing value of using technology to improve an athlete’s performance is summed up by Rick Delgado in Sports Training Gets Smart: How New Technology Helps Athletes Reach the Next Level as he highlights the fact that using simple technology on your phone can help end the frustrations felt by many athletes involved in training that is physically and mentally demanding as they aim to step up to the next level or make the breakthrough in competition.
“This technology can not only help teams evaluate their players but aid athletes in gauging how their own training is going as well. In essence, the smartphone has become like a coach by connecting with the sensors and become a central hub where athletes can receive reports about how they’re doing. This can be especially useful by alerting athletes when they may be pushing themselves too far during the training process. Early alerts can cut down on the number and severity of injuries, which again can help players as they work hard to get to the next level
